Getting There
Flying into Munich
Munich International Airport is clean, cosy and chilled compared to the average UK airport. EasyJet, Ryan Air and Aer Lingus all offer great deals to Munich ...from a bunch of major airports in the UK and Ireland. Most fly to Munich's main "Franz Josef Strauss" airport. Ryan Air however flies into Memmingen - only a little bit further out from Munich (see below). Both BA and Lufthansa offer good prices too ...when the time is right.
Connections into Munich
From Munich's main airport you can take the S-Bahn or the non-stop Lufthansa Airport Bus to the Hauptbahnhof (main train station) in the heart of the city. Both take around 45 minutes but the S-Bahn runs more often and is a bit cheaper. Take a look at the Munich public transport website opposite for tickets and prices.
From Memmingem "Allgäu" Airport you can choose between a direct bus transfer to Munich main train station (Hauptbahnhof) or taking the bus to Memmingem's train station (ZOB) and then taking the train into Munich.
The Allgäu-Airport-Express runs 6 times daily to and from Munich: it costs €18 (€16 if you pre-book on the internet) with a journey time of 1hr 35 mins.
Alternatively, there are buses hourly (lines 2, 810/811) from the airport to Memmingem train station (the ZOB) - the fare is €2,50 and the journey lasts 12 mintues. Alternatively take a taxi. From ZOB trains run hourly to Munich. The faster (and more expensive) ICE trains do the run in just over an hour and 15 minutes. The regional (RE/RB) trains take around one hour 40 minutes - but you can use a Bayern-Karte (Bavaria ticket!) which costs just €28 for up to 5 people in a group (or €24 if you're travelling alone).
